In Loving Memory of Lonnie, the Candyman

Lonnie R. Pounders left this world on December 5, 2025. He entered it on March 26, 1967 in Alabama.
Lonnie stood as a real-life hero. He lived with true self-reliance and a kindhearted spirit. He was a gentleman of immense dignity and pride. We remember him with deepest gratitude.
He now joins his beloved mother, Betty J. Pounders. He reunites with his cherished wife, Sylvia Ann Faulkner Pounders.
He embraces his sister, Cathy Marie Pounders. His life continues in his father, Roy Hershal Pounders. It continues in his children: Hailey BreeAnn Pounders (Kevin), Aubrey Lyn Pounders, Dia Ria Pounders, and Daryl Nash.
His siblings, Ronnie Hershal Pounders and Stacy Denise Pounders, hold his memory. His grandchildren, Hunter Nash, River Nash, Teagan Campbell, and Talon Columbia, carry his legacy forward.
Lonnie cherished the simple wonders of life. He loved fishing and arrowhead hunting. The river called to him his whole life.
He found joy in boating and camping. His greatest happiness came from time with his wife, his daughters, and his grandkids. These moments defined his generous heart.
We first met in Sheffield, Alabama, at a store on Hatch Blvd. He became more than a friend. Lonnie offered constant kindness. He gave me rides on rainy, snowy, windy days.
He loved candies; I called him “Lonnie the Candyman.” He called me Matthew, a gentle shorthand for my Sanskrit name, Matrika. He always helped with a smile.
Our bond crossed vast oceans. I am from the Himalayan nation of Nepal. He hailed from the Puritan land of Alabama, USA.
I grew by the Bagmati River. He lived by the Tennessee River. We shared a similar surname: Pounders and Poudyal. Lonnie proved friendship knows no borders.
He remains one of the decent lights in my life. He stays a steady ray of hope. His actions taught quiet strength. His consistency demonstrated true character. Lonnie’s example inspires me always.
I will miss you, Lonnie. Your journey on the river here has ended. Your voyage in our hearts continues forever.
Thank you for your kindness, your rides, and your candy-sweet spirit. You showed the world the meaning of a life well-lived.
Rest in peace, dear friend!
